As I’ve been speaking about in my last few posts, I’ve been out and about this month having conversations with lots of new people. Not only does this spark new ideas for me, but also reminds me to stay connected to the real challenges that people are facing out there in ever changing 21st century work environment…
The big debate that’s raging is around the future.
What do I need to do to future proof my career?
What skills are essential?
How do I work with robots and take advantage of automation?
What are the trends I should be jumping on?
Or, should I be terrified that my role will become redundant and I’ll become obsolete?!
I had the pleasure of sharing and, hearing from, the next generation of talent coming up in the work place. The conversations they are having, what they are worried about and where they are applying their focus future proof their careers to take advantage of the increasingly augmented workplace.
So, if you are worrying about what’s round the corner or, looking for inspiration about where to focus the following 7 ideas* will turn around any doubts and get you excited about the possibilities…
Top 7 ways to set ourselves up to lead in an increasingly automated world
- Open your mind to the impossible
Technology is advancing so rapidly and many things we once thought were impossible are now a reality. We need to open our minds to the implausible and be prepared to unlearn long-held thinking. - Whole brain thinking
True innovation comes when we access not just our head brain, but our heart and gut brains too. It opens the pathway for creativity, learning and true connection with our clients and team members. - Be mindful
Get in tune with your emotional and body intelligence. Listen mindfully. Add the human touch to everything you do. And remember: EQ is a greater indicator of success than IQ. - Be a student of change, not a slave
Technology is just a tool – don’t be afraid of it. Experiment with the technology that’s available and look for ways it can help you do your job better and more efficiently. - Think beyond your current role
Take ownership of your career and don’t just wait for solutions to come to you. Allocate time for side projects and upskill in areas that you’re passionate about. Tell your manager about your plans – there might be an alignment of interests. - Prioritise self care
Your daily five to thrive: What do you need to give myself every day to be the energised and inspiring leader your team and clients need you to be? Accept that you can’t always be ‘on’ and know that periods of rest are essential for higher-order thinking. - Blue sky thinking
The business we’re in is the problems we solve. We need to think outside our current roles. We need mobility and flexibility in our thinking, and a workplace culture that recognises the importance of experimentation and innovation.
As we are about to step away to do some business planning for CLARETY this week these points have got us thinking about better supporting ourselves and the businesses we work with to be set up and prepared for what’s coming…we hope it’s sparked some new thoughts for you?
To your health and happiness,
